The CBA

About the CBA

The current collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the NRL and Players was agreed in 2023 and will cover the employment terms and conditions of NRL, NRLW, and specified representative players until the end of the 2027 season.
The 2023-2027 CBA was negotiated between the NRL (representing the governing bodies and NRL and NRLW clubs) and the Rugby League Players’ Association (as representative of the players, who are our members).

What is the Collective Bargaining Agreement (or CBA)?

The collective bargaining agreement is an agreement between the NRL and the RLPA, which sets out the minimum terms and conditions of the players’ employment and other important arrangements within the sport of rugby league.

The CBA includes a range of important matters that govern the relationship between all parties involved and balances the interests of all key stakeholders.

How does the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) benefit Players and the Game?

Through a fair, balanced CBA and establishing a genuine partnership between the NRL and players, the RLPA ensures the fairest terms, best support, protections, education, and care for our members.

This will ultimately enhance their elite performance, on and off-field. In addition, players at the elite level are encouraged to take ownership of the game’s growth and development.

The collective bargaining agreement is the most important document in professional rugby league. The NRL product is the players and clubs performing amazing feats and therefore it is crucial that the terms and conditions governing that relationship are appropriate for such a high-performance environment.

Ensuring those terms and conditions are the best they can possibly be will safeguard the game and set it up to prosper into the future.
