The Rugby League Players’ Association is excited to announce Scott Drinkwater as the Player of the Month for June, as voted by the players.
The North Queensland Cowboys’ fullback becomes the second winner of the Player of the Month award following May’s inaugural winner Cody Walker. All NRL players are eligible to vote on four nominees, selected by a nomination panel of former players: Dene Halatau, James Graham, and Channel Nine’s Andrew Johns.
Drinkwater was voted as the best player for May ahead of fellow nominees Mitch Moses, Dylan Edwards and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui. Drinkwater won the award for the eligible rounds of Round 14 to Round 18 of the NRL competition.
The Player of the Month is a new addition to The Players’ Champion suite of awards. The award tops off an incredible June for Drinkwater, which culminated in selection for the NSW Blues squad for Game III of the State of Origin series.
During June, Drinkwater was dominant on his way to four tries, 10 try assists, four line breaks, and 27 tackle busts. He also ran for 200 or more metres in three of his four games.
