Raiders support Cancer Research

The Canberra Raiders and their Major Sponsor Huawei will strive to raise money and awareness for cancer research this weekend, by wearing a specially designed jersey for their round 11 match against the Bulldogs at GIO Stadium.

The jersey will feature the Tour de Cure logo and ‘Riding to Cure Cancer’ message, with the jerseys to be auctioned off post match through www.allbids.com.au to raise money for the cause.

17 match worn player jerseys and one signed by the team and Coach Ricky Stuart will be available for online auction from 4.00pm Sunday (May 24) through until Sunday (May 31), with the money raised donated directly to cancer research. The jerseys are not available for retail and the auction will be the only way for fans to secure one.

Huawei have committed a minimum $10,000 donation to Bowel Cancer Australia www.bowelcanceraustralia.org from the online auction, which aligns nicely to the NRL’s Kick Bowel Cancer campaign during the month of May.

Canberra Raiders CEO Don Furner said the jersey auction was another way the Raiders and Huawei worked together to help raise money for a worthwhile cause and encouraged Raiders fans to be generous with their support of the auction.

“The Raiders and Huawei have worked together over the course of our partnership to raise much needed money for charity and only last season a similar concept raised a significant amount of money,” Furner said. “We hope to once again raise plenty of money and awareness for Tour de Cure this year and encourage our fans to jump online and bid for their favourite player’s jersey.”

Director of Corporate & Public Affairs for Huawei Jeremy Mitchell said Tour de Cure was a terrific organisation who was making significant contributions to cancer research.

“Since 2007, Tour de Cure riders, volunteers, support crew, corporate sponsors and other supporters have raised in excess of $16 million and funded over 180 cancer research, support and prevention projects, leading to 13 cancer breakthroughs,” Mr Mitchell said. “We are proud to be involved with the Raiders in promoting awareness and raising money for this worthwhile cause.”

Aside from the jersey auction and Raiders rider auction, Huawei and the Raiders will be raising awareness at this Sunday’s game and attending fans can make a donation to a great cause when picking up a kids awareness pack. Proceeds to go to cancer research.
